Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz are the sixth married couple to be nominated for acting in the same year. Previous couples include Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner, Rex Harrison and Rachel Roberts, and Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. This also marks Denzel Washington's 10th nomination and seventh in this category. He won Oscars for his supporting role in GLORY (1989) and his leading role in TRAINING DAY (2001).
