Voting for the 94th Academy
Awards started this week, and that means we’re in the final stretch for this year’s Oscar race.
So what film, actors, and filmmaker lead in the top categories? If you’re looking for a few predictions for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Director, there are some good odds already.
Following the Critics Choice Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and the Directors Guild of America Awards, a few films and actors are leading well ahead of the competition.
In the Best Picture category, Netflix’s The Power of the Dog has the best odds to win, followed by Belfast, and then West Side Story. Based on how well The Power of the Dog has performed at other awards this season, it’s looking like the odds-on favourite.
Will Smith (King Richard) is also leading for Best Actor, well ahead of Benedict Cumberbatch (The Power of the Dog), and Denzel Washington (The Tragedy of Macbeth).
In a tighter race for Best Actress, Kristen Stewart (Spencer) is leading over Jessica Chastain, but that’s not as certain since Variety has Chastain leading Stewart, and Chastain also won at the Critics Choice Awards for The Eyes of Tammy Faye.
Best Director looks like a much clearer competition, especially after the recent awards events. The Power of the Dog director Jane Campion is the favourite over Steven Spielberg for West Side Story.
